Katie has over 30 years of dancing experience and has taught in the Baltimore area for over 20 years. Her dance education began in the fundamentals of ballet, tap, and jazz, and quickly evolved into many years of clog dance ("clogging") training - including regional and national conventions with top instructors. She has studied hip hop, ballroom, ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and lyrical with renowned teachers and performers, and received over three years of private instruction on International Standard and Latin ballroom dances with a U.S. & World Professional 10-Dance Champion.
While an instructor for the Baltimore Dance Center (BDC), Katie also performed with the Baltimore DanceAttack, BDC’s professional Hip Hop Company, and directed BDC’s award winning Teen Hip Hop Competition Team. Katie served as the primary Hip Hop instructor on A Step Ahead Dance Center's faculty for three years; responsible for building the hip hop program and educating all ages and levels. In 2011 she began contracting with the Department of Aging in Baltimore County to provide fitness and dance classes, as well as dance education presentations and special events, at various senior centers in the region. Most recently, while contracted as a group fitness and dance instructor at emPOWERed Fitness, she successfully built an adult dance program of drop-in classes. Serving as the Dance Program Director, she ensured that monthly dance technique options (ranging from Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, and Ballroom) were offered, as well as hosted special events, and Master Level Instructors. Katie is an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and also holds current certificates for LaBlast® Fitness, STRONG Nation™, ZUMBA®, ZUMBA® Gold, and ZUMBA® Toning. As the sole proprietor of Socially Danceable, she focuses on instilling the foundations, benefits, and joy of dance to all of her clients – regardless of ability! |
